Waste seperation village gallery
These photos were taken in septembre 2016 in Xinzhuang, a village located in a rural area in the north-west suburbs of Beijing. A few months earlier, a group a seven women moved in and undertook to turn this quiet village into a laboratory for citizen’s participation in environmental protection. Waste management opened a space for social innovation. Through the lense of a waste separation initiative, we are compelled to rethink social relations between « new villagers » and « former villagers »; but also to question the different forms of political engagement through the notions of « citizenship », « autonomy » and « collective action ».
